Ghost IT runs on top of Amazon Web Services (AWS) to give you a highly redundant elastic mountable cost-effective standards-based file system.
Ghost provides businesses and service providers with a fully-featured scalable and stable cloud file system hosted and running over Amazon's S3, EC2 and SimpleDB web services. Ghost IT can run in your own AWS account so you have complete control of the data and can be accessed as a standard network disk drive from your servers or directly by end users.
Why Ghost IT? You want your cloud file system on Amazon Web Services because you trust Amazon.com and like the flexibility and pricing of AWS. But Amazon S3 provides file storage without any of the features of a true file system and in particular no directories (folders). Amazon EBS provides directories but without elasticity (you must choose and pay for the capacity in advance) and without the multi-region redundancy you need for your precious data (which means the cost and hassle of offline backup).
Now Ghost IT builds on multiple Amazon Web Services to provide a perfect cloud file system in your own AWS account. Your files will be stored redundantly in S3 and your folders and metadata in SimpleDB. EC2 instances will give you access using ftp, WebDAV or a web page. The Ghost IT file system may be mounted on your servers or even directly by clients. The whole system is multi-user and includes some value-added features for user management, sharing and side-loading.
